Durban, renowned for its rich culture, warm hospitality, and lively spirit, invites all creatives, residents, and content enthusiasts to express their love for the City through a camera, canvas, or smartphone.
In celebration of Tourism and Heritage Month, Durban Tourism is launching the “Durban Through My Lens” campaign.
Residents and visitors are invited to explore and showcase the beauty of the City through their lens and submit videos capturing the essence of Durban.
This invitation is open to all ages – from seasoned photographers to content creators, township poets, beachfront skaters, and anyone who simply loves Durban.
Exciting prizes await the top entries, which will be showcased at the grand prize-giving event on 8 October 2025.
EThekwini’s rich history is filled with remarkable stories, diverse communities, and iconic landmarks that have shaped the City. Through this campaign, Durban Tourism aims to showcase Durban’s heritage and tourism gems, celebrate the City’s cultures and vibrant community, and encourage both residents and visitors to rediscover Durban through digital storytelling.

Competition Criteria:
• Open to South African residents and international visitors
• Participants must be 18 years or older (or have parental/guardian consent if under 18)
• All participants must follow Durban Tourism’s official social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok & X)
• Create a video or reel that highlights Durban as a must-visit destination. This could be beaches, culture, cuisine, attractions, or events
• Entries must be original content created by the participant
• Content should positively promote Durban as a destination. It should showcase Durban’s landmarks, hidden gems, diversity, and unique character from a fresh, creative perspective.
• Highlight aspects such as:
o Culture and heritage
o Food and lifestyle
o Nature and adventure
o Nightlife and entertainment
o Family-friendly activities
• Videos should be approximately one minute long and include the hashtag #dbnthrumylens and #VisitDurban.
• Participants must own the rights to all footage and include a brief story or description behind the video.
• All entries must include full contact details (Name, surname, contact number, location) in the email body.
A panel of experts in tourism, photography, videography, and cultural storytelling will evaluate submissions based on creativity, originality, relevance, and storytelling quality.

While in celebration of Tourism and Heritage Month, residents and visitors are also invited to explore and enjoy discounted heritage tours along Durban’s iconic heritage routes. The tours are scheduled as follows:
• 25 Sept – Heritage Month Celebration –(Inanda Heritage Route)
• 26 Sept – Durban History Tour (Umkhumbane, KwaMuhle & Mpumalanga Museums)
• 27 Sept – World Tourism Day Tour (Shongweni Farmers Market & Westown)
